Newsflash with Supply and Demand! A new study by the American Journal of Public Health claims that when the price of soda goes up, the consumption of soda goes down. Is this a joke? Did the American Journal of Public Health actually spend time (and presumably money) to figure out the the law of Supply and Demand actually works on soda? I am afraid this is no joke.
This all boils down to the government wanting to put a sin tax on soda, and thus creating a negative insentive in hopes that average health will rise and obesity will fall. But this brings us to the topic of whether or not the government should have the ability to influence how we live our lifes. Who is to say we should be punished for enjoying a soda beverage.
There are plenty of substitues to soda. A major one being juice, or non-soda cafinated beverages. Both of which are high in sugars. Will the government put a sin tax on theses too? What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments.
